Is it acceptable/normal to have a little water in the oil of the lower unit on older Johnson/Evinrude's? 70's and older unit's 35-40 hp range. It appears a little water makes it's way there but everything appears tight.
Was told a small amount is normal for these motors. Can anyone give some input on this please? Thanks!

------------------

"Sled-babes"??? I don't care what your problem is...I'm much more interested in that name than anything.

Sorry for that first reply....blame it on the wine.

Well, in my opinion all lower units should be free of water, but there are folks in here who have worked on the units you describe ever since they were new....I'll leave it up to them to say whether this is "normal". My preachings say it isn't.

Walt

That's a gearbox. Water is NEVER acceptable in a gearbox. Gears have hardened, high carbon surfaces that can begin to oxidize in a few hours in the presence of water. You have a leaking seal. Get it fixed, quick.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB
