Water in lower unit

Hoe serious is water in the lower unit? What can I do to fix this. And a approx. how much lower unit gear oil does it take to fill 1971 merc 135 HP. Thanks How do you to a vacume test on the lower unit.

Water in your gear oil can be very serious.Go to your local dealer and get the gearcase filler pump that screws into the plugs.Use the end of that hose attached to a mightyvac and go to it. That will tell you where your leak is .After that initial leak is fixed pump her up again and she should hold about 10 psi pressure or vaccume with shafts moving.
