have a 1972 johnson 65 seahorse that i thought needed a head gasket due to water in the bottom cylinder. just replaced head gasket, water cover gasket and thermostat housing gasket. after assembling and running with the muffs we still have water in the bottom cylinder. all the parts look great, no warpage or cracks that r visible. just wondering where the water may be coming from, the motor is run in freshwater in wyoming. any info would b great thanks

Short of a crack in the block, the only way for water to get in a cylinder would be a head gasket, exhaust cover gaskets or a hole or crack in one of the exhaust plates.
Maybe someone will come along with some other ideas.

That motor is notorious for warping the inner exhaust cover plate. There are areas next to the exhaust ports that are not supported and they warp. Then they leak and spray water into the exhaust port. Replacing the gasket is folly---you have to replace the inner plate too.

I can almost promise you that is the problem. Almost.

is there a posibility of water getting in crankcase through a crank seal?
