Water in Hydraulics

Mercruiser alpha 4.3 has water (I think) in fluid.<br />Symptons include yellow fluid in reservoir and stern drive will not move up or down.<br />Can this be fixed in the backyard or do I need to bring to boat shop.<br /><br />-D

It is low on fluid and when it froths up it does appear yellow. Add fluid and cycle up-down several times to purge air and refill as needed. Check leval with the drive in the down position. Check for leaks, the fluid went somewhere.
