Hey Guys,

I just put another foot on my 1973 115HP Mercury. I went to change oil after one time to the lake and noticed water in the oil. So I drain it and put new oil in foot. and just ran it with the water muffs and drain the oil again and it is milky. Any suggestions where the water is getting in the foot. or how many place can the water get into the foot oil? Thanks Dale

Did you change those washers under the vent and drain plugs each time and tighten the plugs?

Places where water can get in (other than those plug washers) : prop shaft seal, drive shaft seal, shift shaft seal.

Either perform or have performed a pressure test on the lower unit (after removal from exhaust housing).

Yes, They are brand new washers, Wherever the water is coming in it can get in from just running the muffs on it in the yard. and not put in the lake. does lots of water cover the shaft seal when the water muffs are just on it? Thanks

Driveshaft seals would be exposed to water.----Easy to install a complete seal kit.------Note----The 73 models may not have stainless shafts and rust has chewed up many oil seals on those.
