Re: Water in engine

Water inside the crank case or cylinders is not a good thing. However, I'm at a loss how water got inside the engine unless it was submerged. What evidence to you have that there's water in the engine? Was the white sludge on the engine before you started it? I assume you checked the engine oil level prior to starting it, right? Was there any evidence of water? Was the oil level proper?

Anyway...drain the engine oil and look for evidence of water inside the engine. Let us know what you find...we'll take things from there.

Walt

Re: Water in engine

Water was sitting in rear of boat about 4 to 6 " up on motor, i assume it was sitting like this for a week or so. Do not know these units well enough to know hoiw it could have gotten in to egine (presume in crankcase) as boat was hard to start then very slow idle ran for abot 4 -5 minutes and started to loose power and stalled when idled. Lifted hood and found whitish sluge all over engine and in looking into valve cover cap it looked the same inside . Hopping to meet dealer later today . He says he can chaange oil a couple of times and increase my warranty to cover ayear. I don't know what to do.Weare both heartbroken over this as we spent al of our savings on this unit. Looking for any advise prior to meetings the boat dealer today if I can get him to open his shop. Thanks

Hello,

Was the white sludge coming out of the carb when you ran it?

If so, that's usually an indictation of a cracked block or head.

Was the boat improperly winterized?

------------------
Hope this helps!

Tom Pickens
I'm building my ebusiness by helping others retire debt, reduce taxes and build an ebusiness of their own.

The fact that this dealer is willing to open up on Sunday and take a look at a used package he sold you is both rare and quite remarkable.I have a feeling things will work out for you but it may take a little time.

Re: Water in engine

Allstar, the water got into the engine thru the rear main crankshaft seal. these seals do a wonderful job keeping oil in the motor, but WILL NOT KEEP WATER OUT! 2-3 oil changes will clear it out... motor will be ok provided rod bearings didnt get smoked running on water instead of oil...a full throttle run will prove this out.....you are missing something very important...that starter sat UNDER WATER FOR A WEEK...dealer needs to install a NEW starter...dont care if it works now, it will fail you when you need it most...

Re: Water in engine

Thanks for all trhe help. The Dealer did open his shop on Sunday , and we tried to pump out any oil left . As it was foamy and very little left it would not suck out. We put in freas and ran it making sure it maintained oil pressure. Still foaming out od breather and dipstick. Left till mechanics can look at it Tues. He seems to be very helpful. He was on way to boatshow down South and still took the time. He saya mechanics will put in new battery and removve all electrics and service it then send them out with me for testing. Hopefully it will survive, this boust is a 78 Larsen that has about 150 hrs on it and has been maintained so well all who have sen it believe it to be brand new, no marks or signs of use whatsoever. I want to keep it in the same shape as was has the previous owner. IT would be a teriible shame to seei t destroyed. Thamks again, still nervous over possible long term problems...
