I came in last night from a very short run because the engine was running hot. Initial investigation today was water in the cylinders and in valve covers. Did a compression test and all cylinders were at 180 psi. Where can the water come from besides a blow head gasket which it does not appear to be? What should i do to flush engine? I have drained the salt water from the pump and pet cocks.

Re: Water in cylinders

This happened to me right after I rebuilt my engine. The problem turned out to be warped manifolds and risers. When they are old like mine, which are the originals from 1992, they tend to warp on the center, right where the exhaust gasses pass through. This is because the bolts between risers and manifolds only put pressure on the corners. Thats why you dont get an external leak.

the best solution if you dont wanna spend big money on manifolds/risers is to machine the surfaces flat again.
This is what happened to me, luckily I have a head resurfacer at the shop and I could do it myself. Any machine shop should be able to do this in under an hour.
