Last year I changed my old Mercruiser 4.3 LX. I bought a GM Vortec 4.3 and place it instead the old one.
After 30 hour runing last summer, I realize that there was water in oil. Sometimes I had problems when I tried to start the engine because it was water in any cylinder. I took out the engine and sent it to my suplier.
He told me that the problem was a bad Timing.
They repaired and send me again the engine.
This year I have instaled the engine by second time with new longer risers to be sure that the problem wasn´t the water line. I have checked the timing and it has been running during 10 minuts. Water has appeared in one cylinder.
¿How can I make a good timing in this engine?
Thanks.

You either have a problem with the riser gaskets or possibly a cracked block. Also is this a marine engine. The cam timing and valve opening events is different on a marine engine or it will pump water up the exhausts.

The ignition system is Thundervolt IV. Last week we found water in cylinder Nº4.But we have found in Nº 2 before. How can I check that the timming is OK? The riser, exaust manifolds and gaskets are new.

This Mercruiser service bulletin may help.

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Bullet/01/01_13.pdf

To set your timing, you turn the distributor till the the proper timing marks are aligned on the front of the engine while viewed with a timing light.
