I have inherited a Mercruiser 225 I/O V8 that filled up with rain water to a depth that ended with water entering the block. The water did not reach the height of the carburator, but must have entered through the dipstick or oil filler cap. My indication that there was water was the milky look of of the dipstick. The engine has not been cranked and I don't know how long the water has been there (probably four or five months). Does anyone have ideas on ways that I might flush the block without having to pull the engine? Electrically, everything seems to have survived without damage.

tbird,

I thought I answered this earlier, but I guess I forgot to click on the post button. Anyway, here goes. If it were mine, I would do the following.

1. Drain the old oil and remove filter.
2. Change oil with a high detergent oil and replace filter.
3. Remove the spark plugs and turn the engine over with the plugs out.
4. Squirt some WD-40 (generous amount)in each spark plug hole and let it sit overnight.
5. Turn the engine over again with the plugs out.
6. Reinstall plugs and try to start.
7. If it runs, let it run for about 1/2 hour and then change the oil and filter again with recommended oil and filter.
