water in #1 cyl. 115 merc

I have water in my #1 cylinder and cannot determine where it is coming from I removed side covers could not visually locate problem could it be a cracked cylinder? is this a common problem it did overheat lost waterpump! :confused:

First step is to determine compression. Could be just a bum headgasket. Buy, rent, borrow a gauge and try all the cylinders.

A compression test is certainly in order here.Also ,take a healthy fuel sample directly from your fuel tank.You do not have a head gasket on this engine,but water can leak in from the exhaust plates and gaskets.With an overheat this is not uncommon.

thanks for the tips I did not even consider checking the fuel. There are some other symptoms that lead me to believe there could be moisture in the fuel. I pulled the exaust plates they looked good so did the gaskets. I think you solved my problem I'll keep you posted! :)
