Motor is a 1961 75hp Evinrude Starflite III.
This motor sat for 18 years and now it's alive. It idled very well. Only problem is, it wasn't pumping water. Impeller is probably totally dead.
Is there any impellers interchangeable for my motor?
From what I know the impeller stock number is 377992 and Sierra 18-3005.
I want to buy it locally since we want to try to take this boat out this thursday but I doesn't seem like places have them in stock.

You could try here at the iBoats store, or try your local marina. Impellers for that model should still be available.

How do you know the motor wasn't pumping water? On those models without telltale indicators, it is hard to tell, when running them in a barrel.

I do not doubt that a new impeller is a good idea, BTW.

I ran the motor in the barrel and it was getting warm quick plus I thought some water should spit out of the hole.
I bought the impeller locally because I need it for tomorrow and with tax I paid:
Drumroll please--- Just over fifty dollars!

Re: Water impellers

Water will spit out of the hole in the midsection at 140 degrees F, after thermostat opens. I recommend you keep a hand on the head to check for overheat. if you cannot touch it for even a second, it is overheating.

Water should blow out the hole any time it is running. The AMOUNT of water blowing out varies according to the thermosta position at the moment. It constantly samples the temperature and cycles open and closed as required to maintain the right temp. When it is closed the water goes back to the pump for recirculation (but still a bypass lets some water blow out).

does anyone know the part # for a 1961 75hp Johnson water impeller here at Iboats? Also if I drop the lower unit to I need to get any seals for it when I put it back togather?

impeller is 18-3005. If it still has the gasket where the lower unit meets the exhaust housing, toss it--it is no longer used. I always figure on replacing the foam seal on top of the pump housing, part #18-2532. It won't run with the hood on if that's shot. You may need an o-ring or two--hard to predict. I'm a believer in looking before ordering parts. Who knows, the pump housing may be worn out.

Just an FYI, 18-3005 is the sierra brand part number and is the same as OMC 377992 part number.

No drum rolls here. So you buy it on line and pay $40.00 plus shipping and it all works out the same. Kudo's to your dealer for stocking it.

By the way, after 18 years the rubber would have taken a set, (curved not straight blades) and would not have been efficient.

Hope your carbs don't require cleaning but probably will if gas was left in when it was put in storage.

Good luck and remember that is one strong engine

Impellers can be bought online for $20-30 shipped. Won't say where but its a big auction :) but you are right, I was glad they had it in stock (5 of them too). Turned out it rained today so the official test will be Saturday (dam* you weather man). The motor was bone dry out of the storage. Idles well in the barrel and spins the prop without a hickup in the water at low RPM. Big test will be on the lake. Will post a video probably Sunday. So far I feel like I brought something from the dead.
