Re: Water impeller

The model number isn't even close to the numbers I have.Is it a straight drive,no gear shift?Pictures would help.
Is it a one cylinder, what hp? Most of the one cylinders are similar. They have a air-cooled power head and a water cooled leg.
The impeller is in the leg just above the anti vent plate(just above the prop)
It uses an Eska power head and we may be able to identify the model by the numbers on the power head.

Once again thanks ,I think it is a strait drive as it has no rear shift.I will try and send a pic tomorrow as it is to dark here at the moment

If you run it too long it will. It cools the exhaust leg and the bottom of the powerhead, you will see a mist of water coming out the exhaust ports on the leg.

Re: Water impeller

I see an ESKA 1974C listed as a 1976 4.5hp. If that is what you have the pump is located in the leg, remove the lower unit for access.

Assuming it even has a pump, that is. Most all do, but a few have a ram tube extending out the exhaust outlet, and curving forward toward the prop. The prop thrust forces water up the tube. Either way, it must work or the motor will overheat.

Hot shot, I think you are talking about something else, not an Eska.

Hot shot, if you have questions about YOUR motor, it's operation & maintenance start a thread about YOUR motor. Otherwise it's considered a thread highjack, and frowned upon.

Also, you shouldn't post your email address in the open forum, which also violates the forum rules you agreed to when you joined.

The other thread you posted in was over a year old:
I have a 5 hp arrow model 900215 i would like to know how to replace the water pump also were can i find one ?
help
There should have been a big red banner across the bottom of your browser screen indicating that it had been inactive for over 90days, and should be considered closed. For research only, not to be written in.

The AOMC site may have more information about your vintage Arrow, but you can start your own Arrow OB thread & see if you get any helpful replies...

Re: Water impeller

I didn't find a 1974C but a 1974A is a 1976 4.5 using a AV520 Eska power head.
1974B is a 1976 4.5 using a AV520 Eska.
The numbers change beginning with a 1403B for 77 But we might suppose a 1974C is a 77 Except there isn't a 4.5 listed and the AV520 is on the 3.5.Before getting carried away you should inspect the gear case for water intrusion.
It's safe to assume FR has found the right numbers.

Re: Water impeller

Thanks for the info any help i more than appreciated.

Hello Phil.
Eska engines are very common in the UK.
Your engine needs the short impeller, easy to get on ebay.
The early Eskas had a pipe that picked up cooling water from the prop.
They then changed to a tall multi vane impeller that will also fit the Clinton engine ( again very common in UK )
The Eskas had an undeserved reputation for poor quality, but then these engines are used and abused.
I own three of these, a 5hp the 4.5hp like yours and the 7hp with clutch.
Never had any serious problems with them and have had many years of enjoyment with them.
Any problems with your motor you are welcome to p.m. me
We dont all need a motor from the big brands to have some fun.

Hi thank's for the info.Got a new impeller off ebay,(the short one).just have to fit it now, others say if can be a bit tricky to put the leg back together is there any tips on how to do it.And we to love the engine sounds and smells like a good old forty year old engine. We redone the points, cleaned out the carb and renewed the fuel line.Goes a treat.

Re: Water impeller

I'd say it's a tad more than tricky. Do a search on youtube, there's a couple pretty good ones. After about 3 or 4 attempts you'll get it.One hint, get a good flashlight before you start.
