I give up....almost

1993 Alpha 1 gen II

couldn't get the Sierra hose to stop kinking.

Got the Mercruiser one and it seemed better, but after sitting a while, it seems to have the same kink now.

Is this too much kink?
Maybe because the range of motion is further with the drive off??.

what a pain this setup is.... like open heart surgery working in there.

or is this ok?

If it's kinked at all, it cause overheat at higher rpm/loads.

couldn't get the Sierra hose to stop kinking.

Ran into that problem to with the Sierra hose, the walls aren't as strong as the merc hose.
The upper connection on the transom shield MUST be pushed all the way on, or the hose will be too long and will kink, even the OEM hose.
Also use the curve of the hose to match the direction you want the hose to curve.
Using some Mercury power tuner on the hose makes the go on easier (not easy, just a little easier).

Re: Water hose too kinky?

thanks.
I took 1/2" off the end, loosened the bottom clamp and rotated it 90 degrees, used the power tuner to slide it further on.... snugged everything up.... looks beautiful now...I can't make it even think about kinking anymore.

now I have some peace of mind

I guess this could be the root cause to my cooling problem?
sure would be a good place to start at. it's kinked, and kinked will impede water flow. that hose needs to be replaced.
