d:)I have just acquired a Volvo Penta 120hp I/O on a 19' Bayliner and discovered that the water intake is on the leading edge of the out-drive where my standard rabbit ears do not work. Where would be a good place to look for the proper attachment?:/When I was young the fish were so big we had to fish from shore with a tow truck line.

I bought a special "Volvo" flush unit at a local marine retailer but it didn't fit my 2003 model so I took it back. Regular "muffs" fit my drive.

If it's a V/P 270 drive, I have never been able to find any muffs that work well with it, so I just either attach my garden hose to the intake side of the water pump and run the garden hose using low-medium water pressure to supply water to the water pump. I got this idea from a V/P dealer...he rarely ever used muffs.

Or sometimes I will just put a garden hose into a large bucket I set next to the outdrive and then have a 4-5' length of hose I run up through the transom plug hole and attach it to the intake side of the water pump. When I have the hose attached, I'll fill the bucket with water and keep the garden hose running. When I start the engine, the water pump starts sucking the water up out of the bucket. Just be careful the garden hose's pressure is high enough so that the water pump does not suck water faster than the water coming in to the bucket from the garden hose, and also make sure either hoses do not come out of the bucket!

Admittedly, both of these are not the best solutions but they have worked well for me over the years.

You don't mention what drive you have (gee, don't ya think this might help?), but for the 270/280
West Marine P/N 261834
Tempo P/N 380120

West Marine site down, or I would give ya a link. Also stuff something (I use a 3/8ths bolt with a little duct tape around it) in that big hole in the front of the drive nose, or the water will just exit out the hole.....easy on the water pressure

I have used the flush attachment from Tempo and it works quite well. I also used a rubber cork to plug the drain hole. I read in the service manual where it recomends to use low H20 pressure but never did understand why, it seems the higher the pressure the better the flush, right?

d:)Thanks for all the help, I have ordered a Tempo unit from Fore & Aft Marine and it looks like it will do the trick. I will let you know after a get a chance to use it.

On the low water pressure, I don't know why either. Maybe so ya don't blow the muffs off? Only so much water is going to make it past the impeller, so I don't know why either.
