I have a 1968 Johnson 6HP outboard, and I was wondering where the cooling system water exit hole is located. It is not through the lower engine cowling like most modern motors. So does it come out of the lower unit somewhere? Also what is the temperature of the water coming out of the hole supposed to be? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: water exit hole

I don't know your motor but I had a 5 hp Rude of about that year long ago. It had a series of small holes on the back of the leg for the water to spritz out.

Re: water exit hole

Thanks for the help guys. Everything seems to be O.K. with the water pump and impeller as water is "spritzing" out of the holes on the leg. This site is great!
