I have this water connection on a 2005 Nissan 5hp I recently bought. When I go to run the motor at home, can I connect the garden hose to this and skip putting the motor in a garbage can full of water? I have never seen this on another outboard motor. I have run the motor a few times at home and filled a garbage can full of water to run it in because I didn't want to damage the motor not knowing.

You can run the motor ON or OFF geared or not at idle or fast idle rpm. Excellent port to flush the powerhead with fresh water as long as you want when storing the motor out of season specially if used in salt water.

If that models counts with a thermostat, better run it ON for thermo to open and flush the entire powerhead...

I'm not planning on running it in the salt water but it will be nice and easy to run the motor out of fuel at the end of the season.
