i just recently purchased a boat w/a 50h.p.
johnson motor that had not been used 8 years.
after a thorough checking over and replacing
of all fluids and gearcase grease, the motor
started on the firs turn of the key. every-
thing seemed fine except for water shooting
out w/the exhaust. the motor runs smooth but
i am concerned w/the water situation.

Re: water comming out of exhaust

Most outboards have cooling water running through the exhaust. Helps with cooling. The water you see coming out of the peehole is only to show you that the water pump is working, the rest comes out of the exhaust ports and the lowerunit. Have fun this season, sounds like your boat is going to be all right.
