My Dad and I are looking at a 1994 75hp Mercury that while running with muffs water is coming from around shift shaft. The person that owns it has left the Lower Unit set without oil for over a year. I have been told that the water coming out around the shift shaft could be normal but not for sure. What would letting it set that long with no oil. Thanks Darrell

Thats not uncommon, if your worried about the lower unit check the bottom drain plug for water.

The man that owns the boat now, has left the oil out of the lower unit and he did not want us to put any in. We thought it was kind of weird, but hard to argue with a nice older gentleman but before he gets our money we may have to insist we put oil in it and run it for 20 min or so

Most people who buy a used boat and motor without water testing the unit to see if it runs properly at all speeds live to regret the purchase.
