Water coming out around bell housing

This actually is a newbie question. <br /><br />When I idle there is water coming out between my gimbal ring and the bell housing. I can't remember if it did this before I pulled it out. I was under the impression that ALL exhaust and coolant water went through the sterndrive and came out through the prop, is this incorrect?<br /><br />I was thinking this may be the bellows leaking, although it looked good the last time I looked at it.<br /><br />If this is my bellows, what damage can be caused if the bellows is leaking? I keep the boat moored.

two ports? I'm not sure what you mean by two ports.

normal if its the two ports on the transome so the motor doesent stall at low speeds from to much back pressure.<br /><br />tommays

Look at the bottom of the transom shield, there should be 2 holes approximatly 1" diameter that are idle exhaust reliefs. Water will run out of them when on a trailer before going out the prop.<br />Could also be your exhaust bellows has come loose or has a tear in it.<br />It won't damage anything if it's missing, but could allow water up the exhaust pipe and into the engine easier than with it in place.

on the bottom of the gimble hoseing theres a coupple of holes that let out the exaust when your going slow<br /><br />you should be able to reach down and feel them when the motors OFF<br /><br />its easery to see them on a trailer when your running on the muffs<br /><br />if the exaust bellows is off you would here a lot more noise when you up on plane<br /><br />tommays
