I mentioned a little of this story on my last post but thought a new one was in order....
A week and a half ago we were fishing again at Elk Fork when a sudden storm came up, and we had to scramble for shore. After we struggled to get our boat loaded on the trailor I noticed the fellow who had to help me had tried to drive his in and with the wind's help he became stuck sideways and could not go forward or backwards...and storm was getting worse. I went into the water at the dock and wadded out to his boat and pushed his trolling motor up and then slide his boat onto the trailor. Was in water up to my chest but no big deal, it was hot anyway and I was in a hurry.
As I got out of the water I noticed two things....a billfold laying on the ramp's left side, and a few seconds later I noticed the billfold STILL IN MY PANTS....Most stuff dried out OK but I had a doctors order for a chest Xray I was to have in a couple of days and lost a few notes.....The other billfold belonged to a guy who left there right before we did. We managed to reach him about 24hrs later and he had TONS of ID's in there so he was happy to get it back.....thought he had lost it while casting etc. and apparently he went right past it when leaving....The doctors office had a good laugh about my illegible Xray order and I picked up another one later. I guess I need to keep my billfold in the boat's glove box, or perhaps in my tackle box....still learning...the hard way!:D

Re: Watch those billfolds!!

we keep several 5 inch wide by 8 inch long x 5 inch tall plastic storage boxes with snap lids...in our boat for holding our wallets/keys/smokes/cell phones etc one for us and 2 more for guests....

keep em stowed in a stoage compartment out of water/harms way....works well! no digging or losing!
if we stop at the marina for a bite to eat we can grab the little container and all of our valued possessions are with us instantly...

a good $2 investment...and they float if the boat sinks! (not that Im sure of that but it sure sounds good...lol:eek: (sealed and full of air)

I leave my wallet in the truck tool box. It locks and is welded to the bed. I just take my ID and insurance card in a baggie in the glove box.

no worries!!

Re: Watch those billfolds!!

Leaving mine in the truck would not be a good option as our site is remote and not "watched" that close but I plan to either use the glove box and good freezer bags or put into plastic box as mentioned prior and put into storage bins...as I have three places. I have to write down a "to do" list and keep doing this stuff until it becomes habit. As I keep reading the many posts on here the list does indeed keep growing....as one guy told me on another post.:)

If I'm anywhere near water; hiking, boating etc. my wallet, cel phone, and anything soakable are in zip lock bags. They dont take up much room in your pocket and you still have everything with you.
