I am looking into buying a yamaha outboard motor, 9.9 hp,from a company in Canada, leisurebytel. They have contacted me with a dealer contact called k-sports. I was told, by someone else, that the serial number shows that the motor was from Canada and that US dealers will not do any warranty work if something happened. Is this true? Are there any other factors that I should consider prior to buying a motor this way? I'm getting a local quote 0f 2140 before taxes for an 8 hp and would be able to get a 9.9 hp for less than 2100, total out of pocket, if I ordered from the company above.

Re: Warranty if bought in Canada

I was told by a Bombardier rep at the Ft. Lauderdale boat show that if you bought an engine from Canada you would not have any warranty in the U.S..Not sure if it's true but that's what he said. ;) <br />By the way those prices sound way too high. You should almost be able to get a 25HP for that kind of money. Where are you located? As an example check out www.edsmarinesuperstore.com

Bought out of the U.S. no U.S. warranty. Thats pretty much how all the engine builders handle it.
