I have a 1987 Johnson 50 hp VRO. I have trying to test the warning horn by grounding out the tan wire that leads to the temp sensor. I have disconnected the VRO system but I would like to know if the horn works for the heat sensor. Is the warning horn located on the front part of the VRO pump or is it in the control box??

Re: warning horn

The warning horn would be in the control box if you're using a OMC control box, other wise, it would be connected to the instrument cable at the console/dash.

Re: warning horn

Thanks Joe, Since I was not smart enough to find the horn, do you think I am smart enough to take the control box apart and fix the horn? :p

LOL!!!! Yeah ogeezer....ya' otta be able to do it.

Pull the control from the side mount position and lay it flat. Near the middle of the control you will see a allen head screw. Turn the screw about 2 turns out. With a punch, tap the screw toward the front of the control box. This is to release the handle. Once the handle is lose, remove the allen head screw. Remove the three screws holding the two halves of the control box together and split it open. The removal and installation of the horn module is easy. Reassemble the control box in the reverse order it was taken apart.

Don't hesitate to post any other questions you may have. Thanks for posting.
