Hey,

I have a 1996 Evinrude 225 Ocean Pro

I ran the boat onto a sand bar last night and sucked up a lot of sand. The motor started to get hot so I removed the backflush cap (were the water pees) and cranked up the motor and water coming out was almost hot enough to burn but not quite. I pretty sure that all the sand was flush out and the motor ran another 7 miles at the usual temp.

When I got back to the ramp I noticed that when I turned the key on the warning horn did not sound like it always has.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I guess I should read before posting them....the reason I removed the pee cap was because it was plugged and not peeing which caused the motor to heat up.

Drop the lower unit, backflush, replace the water pump & t-stats.

If the horn is hooked up porperly it will self test when you turn the key on. If it doesn't then you need to verify its power supply and replace it.

UPDATE:

took the control box cover off to verify power....dangling purple wire  ....reconnected and horn self tests.

Got myself a clymer manual...kinda generic but should be better than nothing.

Thanks again.
