I recently found and purchased a brand new in box 1990 johnson 150 outboard. Hooked it up and got everything done except control cables. Turned on the key and the alarm sounded continuously. Unplugged vro and each heat sending unit and still goes off. Anybody have any suggestions as to what to do from here. All help would be greatly appreciated. The controls came with the motor so was more or less plug and go for that part. Thanks Butch

There should be a fuel restriction sensing unit on that engine, look for another tan wire leading from a valve looking unit on port side of engine. Go to marine engine dot com and look up precise location for your engine. This may be your problem. Good luck

(Odd Soundings Of Warning Horn)
(J. Reeves)

Should the warning horn beep constantly when the key is turned to the ON position rather than sounding just a short beep as it should, do the following test.

Remove the TAN wire from the horn. If the constant beeping continues, the horn is faulty, in which case replace it. However, on the other hand, if the beeping stops, something has gone wrong with one of the sensor components at the engine, in which case start disconnecting the TAN wires that are connected to the various components:

* - Heat Sensors, one at each cylinder head.
* - VRO, round electrical plug leading from small end of VRO pump.
* - Vacuum Switch if so equipped, Trace fuel line at powerhead to a "tee". That "tee" leads to the vacuum switch.
* - Oil Tank, black lamp cord looking wire leading from tank to powerhead area.

Disconnecting a unit and having the beeping stop...... you've found the faulty component.

NOTE: The small black plastic horn that has a built in black ground wire...... The TAN wire must be attached to the terminal closest to that black wire. Otherwise weird things will happen.
