I have a 1976 starcraft montego 165hp i/o. When the key is turned on a loud buzzer goes on, after starting the motor buzzer turns off. What is the purpose of this buzzer? Its hard to hear rhe motor start over the noise of this buzzer.
Question 2 How do you remove the guages to rewire them.

thanks in advance

Re: Warning buzzer Question

It's probably a low oil pressure alarm. When starting the oil pressure isn't up yet, so the alarm sounds.

Can you get to the back of the gauges? Usually clear when you can see that . . . ;)

I am going to move this to boat topics as it is not necessarily specific to Starcrafts and you'll get more action.

Re: Warning buzzer Question

I have a beeping when the key is on, but engine not running. It's a warning that the engine is about to start.

If you have a low oil pressure buzzer, that's really nice to have. I wish I had one.

That is one of the nice features of a tach. You don't have to hear the engine start, you can see it.

If you are just rewiring the gauges, you do not have to remove them. If you are replacing them, well...
Like QC said, it is pretty straight forward after you get under the dash and look. I do not remember the size, but on any that I have removed, a nut driver works best.:)
