65 HP Evenrude 93?? One long beep sounds...motor goes to 1500 rpm. Manual says this is an overheating problem. Water port is a strong cold stream. Got any ideas ?

Re: Warning Beeps

Stuck thermostat or malfuntioning temp sensor would be my guess. If it hasn't been changed in the last two years ,the first item I would address is replacing the T/stat with a new one.Run engine up to temp and feel check the block and head covers and see if you can keep your hand on them for several seconds without getting burned.

Re: Warning Beeps

If the horn came on while running, you could be blocked at the powerhead and still have water flow. You should be able to get a sense of the overheating by feeling the head while the motor is running or by checking to see if the paint has darkened on the head.

If the horn came on with the motor cold when you turned the key, you may have a short, your ignition may be faulty, or the horn itself may be shot.

Hello
ob is right on. the only thing the tell tale stream does is tell you that the water pump is pumping. does not indicate any cooling. test or just replace the t-stat and diaphram or pressure grommet assy. test the temp sensor
Good Luck and keep the cool:)
