I have an Evinrude 25hp, 1978 Model # 25852 tiller opperated outboard. I want to add an electric starter to this motor and have done some research into what parts are needed. I have also come across a kit with starter, bracket, and flywheel for a newer 25hp motor and would like to no if I can use them to add the starter to my motor. Here is the info. that I have.

Model#25852 Parts needed-
Mounting bracket- #0333929
Starter- #0386591 (11 tooth)
Flywheel- #0582011 (on my motor)

Parts in Kit (speced as 1988-92)
Mounting Bracket- #0333929
Starter- #583473 (9 tooth)
Flywheel- #583474

I am wondering if I can replace the flywheel on my motor that requires the 11 tooth starter with the flywheel in the kit? I was thinking that the starter and flywheel may just be an updated version since the mounting bracket is the same.

I also have one other question. I was having a problem with the motor running hot. I replaced the impeller and t-stat and flushed out the system with air and water both at about 100psi to be sure that it was clean. I was getting good flow at slower speeds but at WOT it would still get hot fairly fast. I moved the motor down a couple of notches and it seemed to improve the flow at WOT and not heat up as much. Is it possible that I had it trimmed to high and the motor was sucking air and water at WOT because of the aerated water at the back of the boat? This is my first outboard and I have just been going by the info that I have read from this forum (which has been very helpful). Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

583473 & 583474 & 333929 looks like they will work together, when you go back and cross them.when you put a impeller in did you check the grommet in exhaust housing and what kind of shape is the spacer tube above water pump housing.

Muskrat-
all those parts are in the kit, I was wondering if I could replace my existing flywheel (#0582011)with the one in the kit (#583474)without having problems.

As for the spacer/ pick up tube it is in good shape and the gromet seems to fit tightly. I also checked the plate and housing and there was slight marks (you could not feel them with your finger) on the plate and no marks on the pump housing.

It pumps water just fine at slower speeds but seems to be intermittent at higher speeds. When I was running the motor yesterday I trimed the motor down one notch and it seemed to pump water better. I ran it WOT for 20 min. and it did not heat up much at all. Today my friend took the boat out (my motor his boat) and it heated up on him within 10-15 min. He did trim the motor back up to where it was before he took it out today, but rather that trying to trim it down again he just put in his 15hp for the rest of their day. I will be taking the boat out this Sat to see if it will help to trim it down again. Any other suggestions will be appreciated.
