Re: Wanted Used 1985 85HP Force Motor
Outboard ran fine for all 3 year I had it. It ran fine all summer. It ran fine the day before it died.

It was 10 min into a cruise (at about 25mph), when I notice the engine sounding different. When I backed off on the throttle it died immediately.

When trying to restart-starter would engage but not turn flywheel. Turn Flywheel by hand--it turn really hard (alot harder than normal). I worked it back and forth and it started to turn easier. Tried starting again and flywheel locked up. Worked flywheel again--remove sparkplugs to remove compression factor and then turn ignition--starter engage flywheel and turned it FREELY. But after putting sparkplugs back it, while it would barely turn over it would not start.. Sprayed ether into Carbs--it started and ran briefly--Engine shock and sounded bad. Now flywheel (motor) was completely froze--could not turn by hand, even the next day after letting oil soak in each of the 3 cyl.

Took to mech--they pulled power head and found top cyl fried.

Still not sure what caused it. He thinks carb problem to that cyl caused it to run lean and overheat (Wonder why motor did not shut down on over temp??)
