Wanted..an alternative fast idle device

I have just finished restoring a 44 year old classic speedboat (see more on boat below) and need an alternative fast idle device for my 21 year old Johnson 40 hp two stroke. For fit reasons, my existing remote (with fast idle lever) was no good for me and I had to use a smaller Johnson remote without the fast idle lever. My question is: has anyone obtained or had made up such a thing. I have thought about a old fashioned pull out choke cable that can be locked in any position and pulling on the carb linkages. I also wondered if there was a electric solenoid type device which I could operate via a switch from the cockpit. Any ideas welcome. Peter

The boat itself (Alabtross Delta Nymph) was built during 1966-7 and is all aluminium 4 seater speedboat built by Albatross Marine who were prominent in the UK for building small fast boats from WW2 onwards. They are now long gone but I have one of the very few outboard versions which I am restoring now.

Pics please!

Sounds like an awesome boat, i love old stylish aluminum boats.

you might be able to rig up a secondary cable to the throttle, i don't think a choke plate or enrichment circuit would be ideal. You want to advance the timing a bit, not enrich the mixture. Enriching the mixture is just for starting. Maybe just get a spare throttle cable or a bike cable and rig something up.

Look at the stickies, top of the 'non-boating technical topics'.

I did have some photos of the restoration process but my PC had a fit and I lost all of them except one. Go to this web site where you will see the Nymph completely stripped down. She has had her paint job since then and looks terrific.

Have you explored some of the binnacle & side mount controls that don't use a lever, but the main power/shift lever moves outward, then forward for fast idle?

Take a look?

Have put fast tickover on hold for the moment. The boat (called Roxy) is now ready for the water. Its below zero here so will have to be patient. More photo's of finished boat in about
two weeks time.
