Im looking to rent a mercruiser hole template/ drilling fixture. I am replacing the transom in my boat and I want to make sure i drill all the holes correctly. Im also swapping from the type 1 gimbal housing to an alpha one so all the holes arent in the correct spot anyways. Thanks alot!

Ayuh,... I use a cut-out salvaged from an old aluminum boat to do the lay-out,...
Then drill freehand....

Some dealers have the jig,... call around...

Im in wenatchee WA. I was going to originally do it freehand but was worried about getting the angles correct. Any input?

NOPE! You need a template to go by. I used the transom of a junk boat, cut it out with a chainsaw and pealed the fiberglass portion from the plywood and whaa laa! You also need the measurement/spects on the height from the bottom of the boat.

Why can't you use your existing Mercruiser cut out? I believe they are the same cutout. The one difference i think i saw once was the two center bolts might be in a different spot. If your replacing your transome save the cutout from it and match it to the newer gimble and that will show if their the same.

I think u are exactly right. the 2 center studs seem to be the only holes that are not the same on the newer housing. I still have the holes in the fiberglass to go by, just not the 2 center ones.

So line your old fiberglass piece up to the new gimble asy and make the correct holes in it.
