Want to plane faster....

My current prop is 14.5x19
5.0 Volvo pent motor and outdrive
If I remember correctly top rpm is 4400 with top speed at 48

we usually run half throttle since we are pulling tubes,skiers, or wake boards so top speed doesn't really matter but getting out of the hole does, thanks for the help

You could put a 17" pitch prop on without worrying about your engine. If it was a 4 or 5 blade it might also help on holeshot, A vented prop might help also. All that helps acceleration but your planing speed stays the same. If you add trim tabs or a foil you will be able to lower your planing speed some and get the boat on plane faster. Adjustable trim tabs have other benefits also.

I was going to go with a 4 blade prop, maybe even stainless?

Good choice. Just make sure it's 17 pitch. Not 19.

This assumes you have "remembered correctly" on your RPM.

Go with the Smart Tabs ($176) or Bennett hydraulic trim tabs ($450).

They'll get your hull to immediately plane off, and pull like it's you've now got substantially more horsepower.

My Bennett tabs also let you level your boat if you get a couple of fat women sitting on one side. You can also get the boat level when at a 10 mph house looking cruise. It's the best $ I ever spent on my boat.

4 blade prop, 14 x 18 your good to go. Check iboats site (why not your here) nice sales going on. I just bought one to use with a little different pitch than my current prop. Could not beat the price!

Boatman1971, tabs do help on takeoff and in bringing down the minimum planing speed, but do not help top speed unless you do not have adjustable trim on the engine. Then an adjustable tab like the Bennett can help speed. The Bennett style tabs also make running in a storm safer and can remove list from the boat if it's loaded unevenly.
