Want to add fuel/water separator to '86 170

I have a 1986 Mercruiser 170 hp, alpha one, gen one. I am having some issues with my boat just quitting when we are on the lake. I have checked all electrical and everything tests good. This last time I checked all fuel lines and found times when fuel was not getting to carb all the time. I was able to restart boat by continuing to pump throttle until it finally got fuel and then it ran until I got it to the dock and on the trailer. Now I have replaced the inline fuel filter at the carb, cleaned the ceramic bowl at the pump, and checked the pump. Now I would like to install a fuel/water separator. I cannot find any specs as to which one would be the best for this year engine. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong spot, I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me. I have also seen that some people have mounted to the boat and some to the engine, any direction on that would be appreciated also.

Thanks for the information...that helps me decide which one, and definitely does a good job in the testing. Anybody have any thoughts on how it should be mounted since I will be adding it on?
