what gage and sensor would you guys recommend? and would I install the sensor at the top of the head where it looks like a bolt should go?

Believe Bombardier makes a gauge, or can probably find one of the old OMC ones on Ebay. I've installed and used one, and have another NOS one for future reference. They are simple devices and do the job. You may have a drilled spot in the head to accept the sensor, otherwise bracket bolts under one of the head bolts.

I would recommend a water pressure gauge instead of a temp gauge. They are much more useful, as they tell you the condition of the cooling system. Your motor should be near 30PSI at high speed, when the impeller and other components are working correctly.

Oh that's a great idea, where would the water pressure sensor hook in to?
I would like to run both gages that should cover everything on the motor?

probably threads on both (and more). Looking to do some tweaking, or having overheating issues with the motor? Will want to resolve operating problems first, if any.

Might check a dealer and see if there is an accessory kit, at least to see what it includes -- get a price, see what a kit involves. Can either buy or shop around. Might be new motors have the same kit, or nearly new motors.

I would just change out the impeller every year or so, and just go -- but that's opinion. Maybe you do regular impeller changes already.

edit. "great big blue" -- salt water maintenance a little more intensive, if that big blue is salty. I don't like the idea of getting stranded either. Good excuse for an auxiliary motor.....

My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 had a very convenient plug on the cylinder head, where the pipe nipple for the water pressure gauge screwed in. Simply run the tube to the gauge and hook up the gauge lights and you're done.

Changing impeller every year is overkill x 3. Install pressure gauge and change impeller with your idle pressure drops by 10% over new. A Temp gauge is a waste of money on the open loop cooling system used on most outboards
