wanna learn to row faster pull the plug

just thought i would share something that happen to me that taught me to row better and fast. i was rowing on a little row boat with my dad. he was complaining/ joking around about how slow i was rowing. so were were about 50' from the shore and he pulls the plug. i asked him why theres so much water in the boat he showed me the plug in his hand. so i learned to row fast enough to get back to shore before the boat fully filled with water the boat got about half way full. i got great experience from it.

lol it's what made me learn how to row straight and at a decent speed.

Rowing is dependent on up wind or downwind/crosswinds ..

Wakes..swells.. its all variable ...

You cant row like hell when your taking on water to get to shore all the time ( I would have grabbed that plug from my dad and put it back in..or get a sandwich bag and plugged it myself before rowing differently from conditions that were artificially placed in the moment ).

He is testing you not on your rowing skills..but on your 'smarts' .. you cannot breath water..you can use your head in moments of challenge ...and still keep cool.

If you Panic .. your that much closer to dead on the water..

resources are closer then they appear sometimes .

I've often trained my children in such ways. I've also been (falsely) accused of abusing them doing it.

When they get to be about 30, they begin to thank me.

Reminds me of the guy that would catch more fish than anyone...so one day the game warden ask him to go fishing with him, he agreed.

They got to the guys favorite and he opened up his cooler, got a beer for both of them.

Then reached and grabbed a stick of dynamite....and which the game warden told him....HEY YOU CAN'T DO THAT, it's against the law.

The guy just lit the fuse and handed it to the game warden and said.."Here, you gonna fish, or fuss about the rules"
