So I have attached two pictures of Walleye that are supposedly 7 and 8 Lbs respectively. I don't believe that these fish are as large as they say. Does anyone have any comments on this?

I'm only interested as these where the two largest fish of the Derby. In my opinion they look like 3-4 Lbs tops.

Re: Walleye

It's generally hard to tell from pictures - but they look close to that.

Re: Walleye

maybe not spawning....bottoms don't look so filled out....
27-1/2" = approx 7.5lbs....28" closer to 8lbs....
..but they are pretty, I'd eat one!

Re: Walleye

The one on the left could be 27"-28" or around 7-8lb.

The one on the right looks a lot smaller than that. Maybe 24", 4-5lb.

But: We must honor the rule of fish size.

A walleye that is a 10 pounder in the lake becomes a 7 pounder when landed and a 4 pounder when weighed. I guess that means it looks like a 3 pounder in a photo. :)

Re: Walleye

Well the one on the left clocked in at 7.08 Lbs on the Digital scale and the one on the right a solid 8.04 Lbs or so we are led to believe. I am sceptical as a 4.03 Lbs fish I witnessed being weighed looked larger then both of those.

Yeah , I would question the weights claimed. If money is involved you would think they would have a decent scale set up.

Re: Walleye

could be a 4 lb fish with 4 lbs of lead weights inside :) The one on the left looks bigger to me. Any chance that someone just sent the wrong pict out?? Maybe the same guy caught the 3rd place fish as well. Just a thought.

Re: Walleye

id say they look to be as said 4 to5 pounds depending on the enviorment there in and what food source there survive on.ive found that some fish have a healthier body mass meaning more tone to the meat then other fish witch when skined have a softer meat. in winter ice you will notice the same difference from summer fish. there more stout. its due to change in diet. bye the way what did you use to catch them on.
