Walleye opens in NY on Saturday (who is heading out?)

Getting the small boat ready. Son and I will hit the river at 6AM. Usually a slow day, but it is more of a tradition than opening of trout, for us. Who else is planing to be out on NY water on Saturday?

I maybe will go out with the wife if it warms up a little more. If so will just hit the local Black river in Glenfield NY. Its usally more near the end of May when we start getting them.

i think i will try on friday to get a head start.<br />the only 2 DEC officers in our area are too busy keeping their eyes on the bass spawning grounds in a local town. <br /><br />just kidding of course.

Good Luck to all! Will probably start off the day jigging, tipped with crawlers, or slow trolling/drifting. <br /><br />I'm sure we will catch a couple of smallies. Will snap a pic before releasing. Not much chance of the DEC seeing that, given they have their eyes on the turkey hunters, right now. Smallies won't be spawning here till end of May/early June.

Well,....................<br /><br />Day 1 wasn't a Bad Day.............<br /><br />In the am, it was as Flat as Glass..........<br /><br />Early afternoon it started to Blow,...... Got 1 walleye,.. just Over 10lbs........<br /><br />By 5pm it was a Gale Force Wind...... Boat was Totally Out of Control...... Pulled up,+ went Home...........<br /><br />6 fish would have been Better,..... But a 10lber was Close Enough for Me............

Wind wasn't that bad yesterday. Today it is! And won't bother to even try going out. No 10lber here. Just a 15" and 17.5" er. My son lost one that had to be 20+". A couple of nice fat smallies made the day fun. River was lower than norm. Made going back upstream "interesting" in spots. Stays like this and will have to do a "float trip" next weekend. ie pull out down river.

took the family out Sat. for first ride of season<br />later in the afternoon on lk Ontario. lasted<br />about an hour before the crew did a mutiny<br />and we headed back in... much too windy/choppy<br />for the wife and kids.<br />Sun would have been much better, but was ma-day.
