I want to build a step or ladder so I can get thru my walk thru wind shield.
I have a 19' Bayliner cuddy cabin.
Don't know how else to get up on the deck to get thru it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Isn't there already a step built in between the console and the hatch to get under deck?

Yes to go into the cabin, I want to be able to get on top of the cabin.
I think I seen a picture of a boat with some sort of ladder for that, but can't find it now.
Thanks

I didn't think that boat had a walk-through. I've never seen one opened up to walk through - mainly because the center of the windshield would be right over the down ladder for the cuddy. That's a great way to slip and fall. Can't you go up through the skylight on the foredeck?

Something here doesn't add up, for sure. If the windshield is a walk-thru (meaning it has a hinged center section that opens out to the foredeck), then there will be a means to step up to it. You might have to close the cabin door to do so. If the windshield is fixed, there's a hatch in the foredeck that allows access from inside the cabin. The third option is that it's a 'walk around' cuddy with side decks wide enough to make your way to the bow (though the mfr's definition of 'wide enough' is usually pretty stingy).

I've never seen any other configurations in a small boat.

Re: Walk thru wind shield

I know exactly what he's describing, as I have the same boat. Mine is a 1989 Capri Cuddy 19 ft 5.0 200HP. The winshield opens in the middle above the dash, and will stay open with a latch. It has a pair of lounge seats on the deck, with the door to the cuddy cabin between them and under the dash where the windshield opens. Especially when using the boat for fishing, it is quite frustrating, because you would have to climb up on the seat, over to the dash to walk thru to the bow. There IS a hatch in the cabin that opens but it has a tinted polycarbonate covering that is hinged and doesn't open wide, and the opening isn't very large. I see it primarily as a source of light and/or ventilation for the cabin, not an access to the bow. I have a small molded plastic dock step that I keep on board when I'm fishing, and it allows decent access. It's a bit awkward when the boat is crowded or when it's not a fishing day. I've always wanted a hinged ladder of some sort for exactly the purpose he's describing. Perhaps something with deck mounts in the cabin, like some of the removable tabletops use, for a ladder that could attach to fittings on the dash with pull pins or the like.....

Re: Walk thru wind shield

Thanks Oldpapi;
What I have done is built a small ladder, about 17" wide and 4' tall and cut the feet at an angle.
When I need it for docking or fishing or just sun bathing, (not me) we pull it out, when not in use stoe it
in the cabin.
Whne I get the gauges replaced and it out from under the shed I'll take some pictures.
Thanks for all the coments.
Have a great day and happy boating.
