I bet he wouldn't do that with no one around... the filming boat would turn into the rescue rig if something bad happened. Still dumb!

most of the guys I've heard that are doing it also have a guy crouched down out of view of the camera, or even in a compartment.

When you are using Daddies boat it probably isn't a big deal.

Kids nowdays rarely deal with consequences so he probably never thought what could or would happen if he fell, it is pretty stunning that people are that stupid and live and to be that old.

While it's a stupid trick, I don't see it as being particularly dangerous unless you truly were alone (as in no chase boat, etc). It's an inboard boat, so obviously no issue falling off the back, and at that speed in the middle of the lake with no other boats in sight it would be pretty easy to pull up beside it (with bumpers) and have someone walk aboard or reach over and pull the throttle back. Still, it's pointless because as a rider, you'd really be restricting yourself on tricks/etc when you are trying to keep the boat from running away.

Reminds of the prototype jet ski that let you ski by yourself behind through a remote control system on the handle. Nothing like skiing behind something and having to control its speed and direction as well as watching for traffic while doing something strenuous like skiing.

Prototype? They have been selling those since 2004

Lol, well I first saw it in a popular mechanics magazine in the 90's and figured no one would actually buy the thing. If you've ever skid behind a jet ski, you know it's the worst possible boat to ski behind since it won't track at all when you're pulling on the line. I can't imagine that contraption does any better while weighing less.

Its got an interesting hull design that should stop a lot of the side to side and supposedly is ok to ski behind. Be interesting to try it out once but I'm not willing to spend 12K to find out ;) Looks like it has actually been around since 89 and used to be called the SkiFree

Funny thing is the title of this thread - Wakesurfing Solo. Since that is the brand name of the driverless boat.

Yeah, I watched a few of the videos from that link you provided. Most all of the skiers/wakeboarders stayed very light on the line with no hard turns or pulls, and no video showing the ski coming directly towards the camera. That tells me they were trying to ensure you wouldn't see the tracking issue. Probably fine for a small private lake that you just want novice skiers and tubers to play with. It's an expensive novelty item though!

I tried that once and the sea-saw motion of speed/ lack of weight to the pwc and ability to cut down the wakes made me say never again!

It's just stupid to even do the video in the first place, whether there is someone else in the boat or not. It just gives the dumbest of the dumb in our society another stupid idea to try. Would love to see these guys get busted by the police...priceless!
