Will one brand of binders fit a different brand board? I guess, are they interchangable?

Now, this is coming from someone who's only purchased a couple boards... but recently I discovered that I believe it has as much to do with the year of the board and binders as anything. Why? Because the bolt spread is narrower on newer boards, so while older bindings may fit... they may not allow you to utilize all the stance positions which could be very important. I believe newer spreads are 6" and older are 8". From what I've read, some of the reasons for the change was to allow more board flex and to put provide less leverage on the binding plate which reduces the stress on the connection points.

There are way to make most bindings fit on most boards, but my suggestion is to buy a combo package. Companies design a certain binding to work better with a certain board, example would be the Ronix One Board and Binding. Or the Ronix Ibex board with the Reflecto binding, of the LF Watson Binding with the Watson board, etc.

Check online, check your local shop, check Craiglist and buy a combo, you wont be disapointed!

Yes, you can use different brands of boards/bindings together. But Smartwork is right. The newer boards are being made with a 6 inch spread while the older ones are 8 inch. You can still use the 8 inch bindings on the new boards, you just can't set them to the extreem mounting holes on the board. Basically you just lose 1-2 setting options. Usually that's not an issue unless you like a really wide stance.

Most brands will have adapter hardware as well to make the older bindings work for all settings on the newer boards so you don't end up needing to buy new bindings. I believe that hardware runs about $20 per set. Also Evogear.com has a nice chart that tells you what width each brand used for each year.

Where can that be found? I've searched and searched, but the only thing I've come up with is one after-market plate that adapts new bindings to old boards, but I've not found anything to adapt old bindings to new boards. I would LOVE to find that.

Sorry, I slightly mispoke. The adapter hardware I've seen is to use the new 6 inch binding plates on the older boards that have 8 inch spacing. The brand I saw was CWB, at evogear.com, although they say that Liquid Force and Ronix make them too.

Check out this link. It is great overview on this topic and has all the brand specific info. I mentioned earlier.

Unfortunately you're out of luck with adapting the 8 inch bindings on new boards. They will certainly still work for some of the setup variations, but since the base plates are fixed at 8 inches, there isn't much you can do to adapt them into the spots that end up being covered by the plates in the extreme positions.
