VST Float Sticking Closed

I have a 2007 Mercury 60hp EFI. The motor is running out of fuel after about 100 yards after startup. This problem is intermittent and the engine can run fine for hours without a problem. I have 42psi at the Vapor Separator Tank until the problem occurs at which point the fuel pressure becomes erratic and the motor begins to stumble and eventually stall. At this point I have tried pumping fuel into the VST and cannot. I have also tried to blow air into the VST and cannot. I can disconnect the fuel line after the VST and turn on the ignition to run the high pressure pump and I get almost no fuel even though I can hear the pump running. I have verified that the mechanical pump is working properly and pumping fuel to the VST. I have replaced everything in the VST including the float and needle and the mechanical pump before the VST and cleaned the entire fuel system. I have come to the conclusion that the needle is becoming stuck in the VST in the closed position when the motor is off and does not reopen all the time when the fuel level is drawn down.

Has anyone else encountered this problem or does anyone have any suggested fixes? Thanks.

I'm sur eyou could fix it but its a goofy design anyway. I got rid of mine and use an external pump with return to the tank.
