Im having trouble with my vro,I guess it's pumping to much oil,so much that the air silencer is getting alot of oil in it,is it worth having it fixed or should i have it removed. the motor is a 1999 150hp johnson with carbs.

Re: VRO

Howdy, FF.

VRO pumps oil to the carb depending on engine rpm. At the same time the fuel pump part of the system pumps gas to the carb.

If there is a restriction or air leak in the fuel part of the system it will appear to be pumping too much oil when it is actually pumping too little gas.

Considering the price of a VRO replacement it is worth while to carefully investigate the gas side of the system.

Good luck. :)

Hi fishfool.....just want to add to JB's always good advice....

You might also want to check that any of the carbs are NOT blowing back. This condition would indicate reed damage and also cause a mess in the air silencer cover.

Also make sure the air silencer cover drain hose is connected. You will find the drain hose at the bottom of the cover, port side.

Keep us posted.

Re: VRO

hello
wow this is the first jonnyrude I have ever heard of that the vro pumps oil to the air box. I would rather suspect it is a fuel oil mix that has exited from the carbs either by blow back or from the fuel bowls when the engine is tilted.
another cause of to much oil is a plugged vent on the oil tank cap.however a certain amount of blowback is expected. motors are not made to be clean. they get nasty and this is partly how.
good luck, trouble shoot with a plan and a manual.
:)
