VRO unhooked..BUT....

1985 Johnson 120 V-4..I've unhooked the VRO and the wires from the oil tank and am mixing oil 50:1. I'll be running the lake fine and all of a sudden I lose rpms/speed, like a plug fouled. I change plugs and run on the lake and the same thing will happen again. On the VRO pump I could not see the wires that the posts talk about coming out of the pump. Does this model have them? Do I adjust carbs? Any help is appreciated! This is the greatest website on the net! Thanks.

Im sure you'll get some good answers on this one. Sounds like a sensor is still hooked up showing you're low on oil, therefore shuting down. Might check this out.

I looked in parts book, did not show harness on pump, this engine must have orignal pump, or someone cut the wires off. Recheck pump, the wires come out of the pump body.

Clanton&Mumblerone, Thanks for the replies. My motor does not shut down, just loses rpms/speed like a plug is fowled with too much oil. Clanton, All 4 spark plugs look the same--oily. None look to me as if they are fouled. I put the ears on and turned it over and all 4 plugs are getting spark. I realize that this can change under compression from what I've been reading. Could I possibly have a coil or power pack not working right? The motor still runs fine at WOT for 8-10 minutes then loses some rpms/speed like only running on 3 cylinders. Thanks for help Clanton. Bo
