I have a 2003 yahama 130 2stroke.I'm been trying to figure out why my oil is disappearing from my engine oil tank after the engine is tilted up.theres 3 places it could be going. Either somehow going down the hose to oil pump, thru the intake silencer, or back thru the oil hose to reserve tank.what is the little nipple for on the engine oil tank? Please if anyone has had this problem I need help. Or any suggestions?and how do you take the cap off the cap? Thanks

Re: VRO system question?????

The plastic nipple is actually a small sump of sorts. It purpose is to hopefully provide a resting place for any moisture or debris that might get into the main oil tank. It is not a bad idea to remove the sump yearly and clean it out. Then reattach and secure with a tie strap.

The integral cap that holds the sensor to the oil tank is known to leak over time and as the rubber seal ages. This is normally seen only when the motor is tilted up. Oil impinges against the seal, which is no longer doing its job, and oil will leak out. Either leave the engine down during storage, replace the cap/sensor assembly, or try to affix some sort of a clamp around the cap to help it seal better.

The cap simply snaps on and off. However, if you remove it, take note of its orientation and replace the sensor (or a new sensor) and the sensor screen in the original orientation. Make sure the seal at the bottom of the sensor/sender is installed. See illustration below.
