:confused:OK I just put a Johnson GT150 (1990 model) on my 18.5 ft Shadow Bass boat. I want to know if it's best to go back with VRO or just mit it myself? I've done it on all other engine I've had, with not problem. Can I plug the oil line and not affect the fuel pump? This motor didn't come with a oil tank or prop. By the way what size prop would be good for this boat? Thanks for any help or suggestions. God bless all.:D

Re: VRO question

In the FAQ area there are alot of answers about the VRO
My thoughts are premix.
If you had all the hardware i would say VRO but its not that difficult to premix and it will never have a no oil failure unless You fail to mix.

As for the prop not my area of expertis

Re: VRO question

:D Thanks KW, I found this in FQA
John/Rude VRO disconnect or not

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This topic has been debated at length on these forums as well as others sites. All to date vro equipped John/Rudes will run just fine on 50:1 premix if the vro is bypassed by disconnecting and plugging/capping the oil feed to the vro pump and disabling the vro alarms. However ,if the original vro pump is not in good operating condition ,it will need to be rebuilt or replaced with a conventional style fuel pump to perform as a 50:1 pumper. This post is not advocating that you should or should not bypass the vro and mix 50:1 ,but rather to inform any members inquiring on the subject that it can and has been done by many and and works just fine.Anyone seeking the specifics on the procedure can perform a search on the Johnson/Evinrude engine forums.
Again this may help someone like ME(LOST!), but thses good people will help you found the way! God bless all!:D:D:D

Re: VRO question

There is a whole other forum that you could get your prop answers also.

I may not have all the answers but I do know alot of the areas to go to get the answers.

Re: VRO question

If it were mine I'd put the latest pump on (OMS) and use the oil injection. As for the prop, a typical Shadow has a lot of bow natural lift but a lot depends on your load. If you're looking for top speed I'd look at a Turbo Lightning or TXP.

Post over on the prop forum and we'll go over some particulars for your boat / motor. List which props you've tried and how they worked. See ya there!
