First off, thank you all for various answer to my questions over this summer which allowed me to diagnose and fix a variety of little annoying problems with my set up. But I have another one.......

I just replaced my VRO on my 1996 Johnson 50hp, after getting everything reconnected and put back together I read over my manual and directions one last time to make sure I have done everything. My question is for priming the OIL on VRO, do I have to disconnect the oil line at the VRO, which is buried under other hoses, OR can I just disconnect it where the Oil line connects through the engine cover. (I forgot to plug the line when it was disconnected so a decent amount of oil leaked out of the hose, so I am guessing there is a lot of air in the line).

Disconnect line at VRO OMS pump, pump bulb til oil comes out air free, connect to pump and you should be good to go.
Suggest you ad oil to gas tank at 50 to 1 til you verify oil pump is working. Hope this will help, have a good day

Caude is right do what he suggests.Running extra oil is critcal until you know the pump works.I think OMS was for oil management system.A moot point. It's the only pump you can get.
