VRO oil line hose length

Is there a maximum length the vro hose can be from the oil tank to the engine? I know you all are going to be sayinig, "this guy has had this boat for 10+ years and is just now noticing the length of his oil line?". That's right. I bought the boat new in 1994 and have never had any trouble with the VRO system. I just happened to be looking at the fuel and oil hose routing today when I was installing the batteries and noticed that the dealer used way too much hose for the VRO line. The excess is just tie wrapped in a coil lying on the bottom of the boat. I have no idea why he used so much hose and have never had a problem. I was just wondering if this is hard on the pump to suck oil through this much hose?<br />Thanks!

dealer never bothered to cut oil hose to proper length. should not be a problem or you could shorten it what ever you like.<br />note: if you disconnect oil hose run motor 50:1 until you are sure oil is being used (this is a good practice to do after storage as well)

Thanks, marinemech1. I guess since I have never had a problem, I should leave well enough alone. I was just curious. Your comment about running the motor at 50 to 1 after storage is a new one to me. I had never heard of that, but it is not a bad idea. I guess all it could do, if the VRO is still working correctly, is foul the plugs a little and smoke things up a bit. oil is cheaper then a power head it usually doesn't foul plugs

OMC always said not to exceed 25' of oil hose on their VRO/OMS systems.<br /><br />Most years the oil tanks came with 15' of hose.<br /><br />For best results, use the least amount of hose leaving a small length for safety.
