I am considering disabling my VRO2. If I ever had to replace the fuel pump what pump would I replace it with?

The maxrules website will likely give a recommendation. They also sell rebuild kits for VRO and std fuel pumps.

1. You can replace it in kind. 2. Or purchase a similar factory pump (looks like a VRO) but does not come with the oil pump. That would be a premix pump, but look like and connect similar to the original VRO. Saves about $100 over the original. 3. Or you can remove the VRO pump and go with two old-style smaller diaphragm pumps. A still cheaper option that will also require premix fuel. Like on the 83 V6 engines.

All good info. Will research all these options. Guess I am getting a little paranoid about VRO2 going out. Everything I read seems to indicate its a good system with good warning signals. Max Rules shows a rebuild kit for the fuel side. I am thinking at this point if I disable the VRO2 and if the fuel pump side goes out I will rebuild it. Probably the cheapest and easiest option.

I'd stick with VRO. Has good alarm if you have issues and way less hassle filling gas and mixing.
Rebuild the pump if in doubt.

I am rebuilding the fuel side of mine right now. The part number for the kit is 0436095. You can get it on the net for $55-70. The max rules site had it for $147. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!

These early VRO pumps are responsible for a lot set up engines. V stands for Variable meaning that sometimes these pump would produce a 1:100 mix.
The first generation was the worst, the second generation a little better, but the good ones started coming out after 1991. They were no longer variable.
If you want to replace yours, you should either do it with a regular pump (mix your own) or a post 1991 vro pump

In response to rolmops: Are you saying you dont think its a good idea to disable a vro2 and run with the fuel pump side only but rather replace with a fuel pump only if I want to mix my own?

There are lots of options.----Myself I think I would install a couple of fuel pumps off say a 1966 100 hp.---Have a bunch of them and they have a good filter and sightglass on them for water seperation.-The VRO pump can be used to pump a 50:1 mix if you want to disable the oil side.
