vro and how does it work?

boat has sat along time 3yrs.115hp johnson o/b is there a pump in the engine. that may need looking at since it sat so long. how does that oil get up to the engine. i know about priming with the bulb.got that figured out.im new at this system always used premix on all my boats.

What year is your engine?

You will most likely find the VRO pump attached to the breather box, the pump is black and has a bunch of fuel and oil hose going into it. You will want to ensure the pump is working but generally I don't think they don't go bad from sitting... unless it's an older pump without the newer alcohol resistant rubbers. Best bet is to run mixed gas (50:1) until you are sure the pump is moving oil. If it's a newer pump you can pinch the oil line (gently, use a rag and a pair of locking pliers) and it should alarm due to no oil flow, if your alarm system is working.
