Evinrude 110 "89 Had the carbs rebuilt - cost over a grand - they claim to have tested the boat. First time turn the key in water the engine alarm is solid. Mechanic claims they are unrelated - I want to poll the group.

Is he lying?

I would agree with your mechanic. Two things can cause a solid alarm VRO no oil or an overheat condition. Did you purge all of the air out the oil system before starting the engine? Also check to make sure you have no air leaks and the fittings are all tight and the hose and primer bulb is good.

The VRO alarm for no oil is NOT a solid alarm tone ! It is a pulsing on and off about every 1/2 second.

A solid tone on a V4 is either a short in the tan wiring or a shorted temp sender or an oil tank pickup that has flakey electronics. Disconnect the oil tank first and see if the horn stops. Then take apart each cylinder head temp connector. If it still sounds, then there is a short somewhere is the boat or engine wiring or in the control box.

So your saying the work required to rebuild the carbs- add fuel filter, compression test and claim to have water tested everything is not related to this issue? Its just a freaky incident that when I tried to water test it - ? You guys know more than I do....is this difficult to diagnose - they still have my boat.
