VRO alarm replacement cross reference/generic

No, it's not. The alarm circuit of the 3 wire VRO has no supply wire but is supplied through the alarm horn. So special electrical charactristics are required here.

Thought that may be the case. Surely there is a cheaper alternative? This concept has to have been done before and since.

This confuses me even more now I put some more thought into it....

I have replaced my non-functional VRO horn with a standard 2 wire horn for diagnostics. This replacement horn sounds continuously with the ignition on until I unplug the 3 wire VRO harness (no oil circuit) under the engine cowl (1989 120 V4 Looper).



Are there any other ways to test the VRO 'no oil' circuit for correct functioning without a correct, functional VRO horn?

Unless you have special experience in electronics, you have no alternative to the genuine warning horn.

The VRO2's alarm output is a SCR, a semiconductor with a latching effect. With any other load than the correct horn the SCR triggers and never goes off again.
